 LATEST INFORMATION - 16/11/2011

In November 2010, the relevant Lead Registrants within the ECI managed REACH Copper Consortium, successfully submitted joint submissions dossiers for copper, final slags and the twelve intermediates within the scope.

The deadline for > 1,000 T registrations passed on November 30th 2010. Prior to that date, ECI concluded Letters of Access (LoA) agreements with several companies.  ECI is committed to continuing to use this website to communicate to all SIEF members and will maintain its LoA processes for customers with future registration deadlines.

Terms & Conditions for LoAs are available by clicking on the relevant material in the left hand menu bar (Please revert to English version).  Summary classification proposals are also available via the same menu.

While the provision of safety data sheets, down the value chain, is the responsibility of individual producers, ECI's Consortium is providing important generic guidance on exposure scenarios for copper to the downstream user community - click on copper in the menu.

Finally, as ECHA, the Member States and industry all build experience with the processes that followed the initial registrations, ECI is working with its Consortium members to incorporate the results of newly finished research into the relevant dossiers.

REACH Copper Consortium Member Access

What REACH services were available from the European Copper Institute ?

Since early 2008, ECI provided Secretariat services to the REACH Copper Consortium, a standalone business venture open to all potential REACH registrants. Its objective was to maximise the efficiency and cost effectiveness of its members’ efforts to meet their REACH obligations for copper.

After an extensive effort by ECI and the member experts, all members received IUCLID format registration dossiers and step by step guidance, well in advance of the December 2010 registration deadline.  Each dossier included a Chemical Safetry Report containing "identified uses" and "user descriptor codes", recommendations for risk management actions and proposals for Classification and Labelling.

What products were covered by ECI's Consortium ?

Primary and secondary copper metal (click here to view the Consortium's position on recovered materials), slags from copper production sold as a product, plus a well defined series of by-products (intermediates) produced during the smelting/refining and semi-fabrication processes.  Click  here for information on the copper compounds Consortium, managed by a third party.

Further information on the broad principles behind REACH, plus access to other metal consortia, can be obtained through the Eurometaux Gateway - click here.
